Week1 introduction - basic perspective, and cube





























INTRODUCTION - scope of work, expectations, grading procedures and materials. Sketch 3 objects (car, face, and chair) in class under time constraint.

BASIC PERSPECTIVE - Warm-up and connecting freehand exercises(1,2,3 line tone variation), intro into basic shapes (cube). Rules of perspective and their implications, 1,2,3 point convergences.

DEMO - good line/ bad line, curves and ellipse
wire cubes in perspective, gradation, monochromatic pencil rendering,

ASSIGNMENT : 1page(letter size) - redo one of 3 objects with ID lines.
15pages(letter size) - Good mix of CUBE-shaped objects from observation and imagination - min3 max5 objects per page - be creative!!

Week2 ellipse and sphear

























































































ELLIPSE - study ellipses, discussion of light, shade and shadow.
SPHERE - light studies of sphere w/shadow. natural vs. artificial light.


DEMO - monochromatic shading with nupastel, wheels w/tire sketch
shading sphere and cube w/ shadow


ASSIGNMENT - 15pages (letter size) of wheels w/tire or round objects w/ lots of ellipses, draw through, introduce shadows.
15pages(letter size) - design sphere shaped objects. reference demos. introduce color!

Week3 cylinder, cone















































  • CYLINDER, CONE - light studies of cylinder and cone w/ shadow.


  • DEMO - cylinder, cone w/ marker, wallet marker rendering on vellum paper.


  • ASSIGNMENT - 30pages(letter size) - design cylinder, cone shaped objects using all the media (nupastel, marker, pencil, ballpoint pen, verithin pencil, prisma color pencil, gauche). bring chrome objects for next class.
